This Field Note documents a torch-on membrane waterproofing project at BS Freshmart, Mersing, Johor.
The work involved preparing the existing roof surface before installing the torch-on membrane waterproofing system across the required area. Particular attention was given to membrane alignment, overlapping joints and detailing around the roof perimeter to create continuous waterproofing protection.
The photographs below show the actual work progress and installation carried out by VROOF
Existing Roof Condition and Surface Preparation
Before the torch-on membrane installation, the existing roof surface was checked and prepared to provide a suitable base for the waterproofing work. Proper surface preparation is important because loose material, dirt and uneven areas can affect the installation and bonding of the membrane.
The roof area was prepared before the membrane installation proceeded, with attention given to the areas where waterproofing continuity and detailing were required.

Torch-On Membrane Installation
After the roof surface had been prepared, the torch-on membrane waterproofing system was installed across the required area.
During installation, attention was given to the membrane layout, overlapping joints and continuity between each section. These details are important in forming a continuous waterproofing layer across the roof surface.

TOR30 3mm Torch-On Membrane Waterproofing
For this project, a TOR30 3mm torch-on membrane system was used. The membrane was installed using heat application, with each section positioned and overlapped to maintain continuity across the waterproofed area.
Particular attention was given to the membrane joints, perimeter edges and upturn areas, where proper detailing is important for the overall waterproofing system.

Waterproofing Details and Installation Progress
As the installation progressed, the membrane was continued across the roof area with attention to overlapping joints and the surrounding details. Maintaining continuity between membrane sections is important to reduce potential weak points within the waterproofing system.
The photographs from this project also provide a record of the actual installation process carried out on site at BS Freshmart, Mersing.

What This Project Shows
This BS Freshmart project shows the importance of proper surface preparation, membrane installation and detailing when carrying out a torch-on membrane waterproofing system.
Rather than treating only isolated areas, the work focused on creating continuous waterproofing protection across the required roof surface, including the membrane joints, perimeter edges and upturn areas.
